This article will cover how to create a Sub Organization Account in AWS. This is very useful when you want to separate resources, accounts, and billing associated with another organization. A Sub Organization is basically an Account within AWS that is separated. The account however is still managed and controlled by the Management Account Holder. This Management Account is the Primary Account.

Prerequisites:

  • Contain a Managed Account โ€” Administrator account to AWS

Step 1. Log in as a Root Account to the Management Account

Step 2. Search for AWS Organizations from the main services search and select AWS Organizations.

Note: This is only available for Managed Account holders.

AWS Organizations from the Menu

Step 3. Click on โ€œAdd an AWS Accountโ€

Step 4. Fill out the information.

Note: This CANNOT be the same email address as the Managed Account.

Step 5. Click on Create Account when Done.

Great! There is now a Sub Account that allows the capability to separate the visability of resources and billing.
