Manually updating a TrueNAS Server is straightforward when updating within the same version. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the process of migrating from TrueNAS-13.0-U3.1 to TrueNAS 13.1 Patch Update 202310240713. I felt the need to create this guide because the existing documentation didn’t specifically clarify which files were necessary for the update.

Steps to Manually Update TrueNAS Server:

  1. Download the Update File:
  • Visit TrueNAS Downloads.
  • Look for the manual-update-unsigned.tar file corresponding to the version you intend to upgrade to.

2. Navigate to the Update Section on TrueNAS:

  • Access the TrueNAS GUI.
  • Go to System -> Update -> Manual Update.

3. Select a Temporary Storage Location:

  • Before uploading the update file, choose a temporary location for the unzipped .tar file. You can pick any available storage pool.
